Due to an aging roof this home started to experience water leaks into the home at multiple points. After careful inspection it was quickly discovered that not only was the asphalt shingles aged but they were improperly installed. Aside from the shingles being installed improperly it was also discovered that the underlying roof sheathing was causing the shingles to separate in a stair fashion. (see pictures) This separating was a definite concern because it pointed to a structural issue in the actual framing of the house.
This roofing job required a full stripping of the old asphalt shingles so we could get down to the actual plywood sheathing and make the necessary repairs. What was discovered was the roof sheathing in one full section was barely nailed down so it was able to shift like it did and it was also discovered that the rest of the roof was dramatically under nailed. Someone was cutting some dramatic corners when this house was built. This is a very good example of why it is so important to have a qualified builder and more importantly have an on-site project leader with integrity.
